This Tuesday begins my 6-night run at The Stone in the East Village - John Zorns storefront improv lab. I am grateful to him for asking me to convene many of my esteemed colleagues for a survey of a few old themes/longtime associations and in-the-moment musical invention. My good friend and musical guide since the mid-70s Vinny Golia is coming out from Los Angeles to play (Thursday night) and represent my many hometown comrades. He is a figurehead and spark plug and master of many woodwinds. Maybe at another time I can bring out more of my friends/collaborators from there... But in the meantime, please check out the schedule and - for some of these shows especially - come early to get in, as The Stone is quite small and its all first-come-first-served. I am really excited to be able to play with so many of my favorite people in this intimate (and HOT - maybe bring some water and a towel!) space. Please note some last minute info: Tim Berne of BB&C will be unable to play Tuesday night (tonight) owing to a sudden serious illness in his family which has taken him out of town. I send my prayers and best wishes to him and his family. Jim Black and I will perform duets at the 8PM show, and at 10PM we will be joined by guitarist Mike Gamble. Also note that the special guest playing with The Nels Cline Singers on Wednesday night at the 8PM show will be announced late tomorrow.
