This Weeks Commentary: Yom Kippur - Leviticus 16 Yom Kippur is The Day of Atonements or Day of Coverings, literally multiple coverings (Yom Ha Kippurim). The High Priest would go into the temple and into the Holy of Holies once a year and put blood of a Red Heifer upon the alter to cleanse the people of Israel. Ashes of a spotless Red Heifer, would be used to purity the alter. In this century, we are constantly looking for a spotless Red Heifer, which would be the soon coming atonement sacrifice for the new Temple which will be rebuilt. It is widely believed according to tradition, that the High Priest would enter the Holy of Holies with a rope tied around his ankle, so that if the High Priest was struck dead, they could then pull him out. Yet this would be inaccurate, for rope was made of defiled material, for it was not prescribed by God. Rather, they were told to put pomegranate bells on the border of the high priests robe, thereby letting others know if he was struck dead for not being atoned for himself, if the bells stopped jingling. Yeshua is our Great and High Priest who didn’t sin at all, therefore He could come boldly before the throne as our perfect sacrifice and atonement. Therefore during Yom Kippur we celebrate Yeshua’s sacrifice for us, for without it, we would not be atoned for. vimeo/107550895
