This a few weeks overdue but I’d like to thank everyone who came out to the NCSU Ducks Unlimited Oyster Roast a few weeks ago. It was a sellout crowd of just over 200 people. The best part about it was that it was run by a slew of young guys who stepped up to take charge and learn the basics of running a Ducks Unlimited event. On a different note the 2014 Oyster Roast was my last event as the head of the NCSU Ducks Unlimited Chapter. I will still serve as a valued advisor in the fall and coming years. The young talent on this year’s committee is second to none, every committee member proved their value to the organization. I have been a part of the committee for five years now and an officer for four of them. In my time as part of the committee we have raised over $130,000, had over 125 sponsors, and 2500 members in attendance at our fall events. These are numbers that all of Ducks Unlimited should be proud of. We have finished third, second, first, seventh, and sixth in the country respectively taking the state title for three consecutive years and finishing runner-up for two of them. This year we finished sixth in the nation and had our biggest gross and net/net event in our history with only 550 in attendance. We would have finished fourth if somebody had paid for their live auction item that was purchased for $3,750. All these numbers are impressive and something that I will be proud of for the rest of my life but the thing I will value the most are the lifetime friendships I have made and the hundreds of people I have met. I have traveled all over this great state to different banquets and attended four state conventions meeting all the ones who make it happen and many have served as mentors to me. My two biggest influences have been Ken Roberts and Larry Wilkins. Ken is one of my best friends and is family who has given me countless words of wisdom for not only Ducks Unlimited but life and I love him for that. Larry has served as my regional director and greatest asset as he has always believed in me and spent countless hours making sure NCSU DU had what they needed to be successful. I can’t forget about Rodney Warren who first contacted me about starting a chapter at Wallace Rose Hill with Mark Stampe as an advisor. Trey Oliver , Ed Goff and Geddie Maxwell Herring II have done awesome jobs as district chairmen as well as Trey OFerrell , and Sim Ogburn as presidents I served under. I consider you all great friends. I thank my parents for always backing me in endeavors with Ducks Unlimited, although wishing school has a little more priority. Am I right Shella Sykes Farrior ? This is not goodbye Ducks Unlimited it is see ya later. It is time for me to step down and pass the it on. The foundation is laid, now let’s build upon it. And always Fly with the Pack!!
