This afternoon we received an email from the literacy coordinator for the Rochester libraries. The first few lines are quoted below, shared with you because of the surprising fact she reports. I would like to introduce myself. I am Shelley Matthews the Rochester Area Literacy Coordinator. This is a new position that the library created to help keep literacy problems in Rochester in everyone’s mind and to research proven methods of ending illiteracy in communities. I would love your help. We have eleven libraries with in the city. · You might be surprised but our biggest theft is of The Holy Bible. So if your community orders new ones or has extras most libraries need them. Torahs and other holy books are also needed. If anyone has copies of the Bible they would like to donate, you could call a city library and ask if they need one or more.
