This article is an example of American Conservatives complaining about the IRS monitoring churches to see if they are following the law. Firstly Im not believing that this is happening to the tiny church shown in the photo, or anywhere, but its OK with me if they do. Having made a substantial percentage of my income from churches both at the local and national levels, having targeted them in my business plan as a good source of income due to their successes, and knowing how much money many of those involved with larger churches and higher-ups in denominations can keep for themselves, - I cannot fathom how their business is any different from any other seller of ideas - be it Tony Robbins, or a how-to book author, a screen writer or an actor (which most preachers really are, lets face it. Theyre not exactly writing their own material). Let them apply for non-profit status like any other business, and if they pass legal muster, then non-profit tax laws apply. I know many many in the religion business who live fat fat lives tax free, and its not fair to you as a working, tax-paying person that they do. Scrutinize the churches, and if they are preaching politics from the pulpit, then tax em like the law says. Obamacare is a secular, political matter, as is who to vote for and what issues to vote for or against. Tellng your congregation how to vote is fine if you pay your taxes like any other political orginization. If a church or denomination is breaking any tax-exempt-status regulations, tax em. I pay taxes on the wages they pay me, and they treat themselves like a business,. Tax em like one.
