This article upsets me in several ways: 1: obviously you have no idea what being a mother entails. Yes we dont work 9-5 jobs, we actually work 24 hours a day. Sometimes sneaking in 4-6 hours of sleep. Now there are lots of times Ive slept 8-9 hours a night as a mother but if someone gets sick I could be on call at all hours of the night. Not to mention I make 3 -6 meals a day with no lunch break. As well as many other unimportant work around the house. 2. There are a lot of mothers including myself who dont have a choice to work outside the home and backpack across Europe, or land their dream job which are things you obviously find important. The cost of decent, safe, child care can be unaffordable to some families. I want to work help make a fortune for my family... And also Land my dream job. But in doing research almost half my salary would go to someone else raising my family. 3. Lastly. I feel sorry for the mother who raised you. Whether she was a working mother or stay at home mother I wonder the following: when you were sick as a child, did she clean up after you, did she bath you, feed you, did you ever call her in the night crying with a broken heart, how many times did she sacrifice her own wants to buy you clothes or a prom dress or a car etc. How often did she drive you to the dentist, doctor, or even a friends house??? Yes a stay at home mother does not have to do brain surgery, or build and engineer skyscrapers, but in our own little way without perfection or education we are housekeepers, cooks, dentists, educators, uneducated nurses, psychologists, care takers, friends but most importantly life molders. I want to especially emphasize working mothers. They do it all. To the young hipster who wrote this, I pray for the day you become a mother that you will write an apology and the title of your article states, I look down on myself for being so ignorant on a subject I knew nothing about.
