This, believe it or not, is what intimacy and trust between string players looks like. I joined the union in 1971. In all these years, Ive never, ever, worked a date where all the fiddlers left their instruments on their chairs during the break. We all love our fiddles, and theyre worth a small fortune. This crew, including the arranger and studio owner, have been together since the early 90s, and everyone was that comfortable! We knocked out the entire album in 2 days of doubles. Being close friends and very familiar with each others playing and personalities, there was no fatigue at the end of long, consecutive takes. As a matter of fact, time passed too quickly. It was a 2 day party that everyone was sad to walk away from. Man, Id give just about anything to have this kind of work every day. And imagine that: String players that are close friends...that like to hang! Just like horn players. Thats kind of rare.
