This call to holiness is not just a matter of gritting your teeth - TopicsExpress

This call to holiness is not just a matter of gritting your teeth and getting on with it. Rather it means learning how to co-operate with the Holy Spirit who is at work in you. The Christian life is totally impossible without the influence of the Spirit. He is God-within-you, working on the inner life and shaping you from the inside out. We are called to ‘work out our salvation’—but this is only possible because God is working in us, directing us towards His will and enabling us to follow it. “…for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” Philippians 2:13 The very desire we have to live for God and to serve Him comes from the Spirit of God. We are that dependent on Him. But this dependence doesn’t mean we abandon all efforts to be holy. No—it’s a divine human partnership. We submit to God’s Spirit, yielding ourselves to His impulses and opening ourselves to His truth. And God, for His part, empowers us to live out this call of the Spirit.
