This cast reproduction of a Sierra Nevada bighorn sheep skull is just one of many props that park rangers use to teach visitors about wildlife in the park. Beginning in the mid-1800s, unregulated hunting and fatal domestic livestock diseases eliminated bighorn sheep from Yosemites wilderness. To help restore the population, the National Park Service and partners have been reintroducing herds of bighorn sheep back into the park since the 1980s. Check out the latest Yosemite Guide to read Returning Bighorn Sheep to Yosemites Wilderness (page 10) and learn more about this magnificent animal. nps.gov/yose/planyourvisit/upload/yg15-1.pdf
