This coming storm has a westerly flow. This movie shows detailed radar precip over the last 3 hours on a loop (click HD for much better quality). You can see the speckled nature of the lake effect precipitation forming as the cold air pushes in from the west. The axis of the Kita Alps is roughly marked with the red line, and the rain shadow impact is obvious to the east. Hakuba is near the top-right of the red line. Further east is Myoko and Nozawa, and in the early stages of this westerly storm they are well into the rain shadow of the Kita Alps. The Hakuba area will be getting plenty in the higher alpine. Thankfully, very little snow has made its way into valley bottom so far (where it is a hassle, not a help at this time of year). Can anyone suggest a free or cheap video editing software that allows me to easily draw graphics onto the footage?
