This crazy Christmas thing...........so people were really messed - TopicsExpress

This crazy Christmas thing...........so people were really messed up...........in fact, couldnt even keep a few simple rules that were given to help them live happy lives with meaning, purpose, and peace. Whats worse, is that the actions of rebellion had terrible outcomes in the lives of those who rebelled and caused a rift, separation, gulf between those created to thrive in His presence and Him whose presence they were meant to thrive in. As an infant is dependent on a mother for......well everything, so were/are those persons who walk the earth as image bearers of their creator. The hole we dug ourselves in was deep and frankly without escape. The only one who could solve the problem was the one whom we rejected and scorned. Like the screaming toddler who rages against a mothers correction, I/we stamped our feet and defied the only one who could bring us life. But God is love! So, YHWH/God/Creator, (from hear on referred to as Heavenly Father) decided to do the unthinkable. In a mystery that is beyond my gray matters ability to comprehend, the eternal God, wrapped Himself in humanity to come and show us the way. He would come as one of us...........not a spiritual, non material being who is a person with a mind but not a body limited by space time, but a baby..........in a barn........with the poop and stuff of the animals. Not only did He come to show us the way, He came to die and suffer the punishment that our disobedience deserves. (Please dont freak out over the concept of punishment. What one of us doesnt want an Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin or the rapist that attacks our wife or daughter not to be punished). Though it may not seem so to our highly refined 21st century minds, our rebellion and rejection of God and His laws does have a consequence that is final and unshakable. This baby Jesus would grow up and live that perfect life, showing us the way but would also be tortured and killed on a Roman cross and scream, My God, My God, why have you forsaken me. You see, the baby would, because of His perfectly lived life, qualify to stand in our place (non perfectly lived lives people) and, as the perfect person, die in the place of the non perfect persons. It is confusing and really doesnt have much context for our modern way of thinking, but this truth haunts our sub conscious and most of the myths of all human culture. There is a truth to this that rings, well, true.......but can be muted by the ear plugs of sophistication that so many of us wear. So, Christmas is about a baby but it is also and really most importantly about a baby who would be the savior of all men. Finally: After he was tortured, forsaken by the Father, died and was buried........that baby, who became a man, rose from the grave. He conquered death, thus defeating the last enemy that our rebellion unleashed. He made it possible, for those who willingly turn to Him, to actually be restored in current family with the creator/heavenly Father and to spend an indescribable eternity, living with Him and a lot of other awesome people in a place that is hard to describe. So, this Christmas, please get over the things that are keeping you from opening your heart, bending your knee and returning home to the only real home you need.........home to reconciliation with God through the cross of the Christmas baby. Happy Christmas and Merry New Year!
