This day began early and I am now just winding down. Thank you all for your prayers and good thoughts. Things did not go well for my dad today and I anticipate that, in his confused mind, they are only going to get worse. Today the doctor at the neuropsychology evaluation told my dad he can no longer drive. I have his set of keys but when I called to check on him tonight he asked where is my other thing that starts my car. I had two and now I only have one. So tomorrow I will be getting the other set. Pray for patience and his safety. My sister is arriving early next week and she will be staying with Dad for an extended period of time. My present goal is to get figure out his finances and get him into assisted living as soon as possible. My dad is not a pleasant person so this will be a difficult transition. I am feeling blest that my emotional distance from him began years ago and I am able to look at this process,as not a loss for me, but as a gain for him. He will not make this easy, but Im really OK with that. Often we ask for prayers but we are very general about what we need. Tonight, and in the coming days, I am asking for calmness of spirit for my dad, quick solutions to his current living enviroment, and clear guidance on how I am to proceed. And finally, that I will have the available resources and knowledge to make right decisions. I am not grieving the loss of my dad to confusion. I grieved years ago for the relationship he would never allow. My spirit has healed from that. I feel stress in the actual doing of what needs done. In my few years as an RN God has placed the people I needed for every situation Ive faced with my parents. I am confident this will continue in this process, too. Even during the challenges of life I can say, God is good...all the time. Thank you friends. Words cannot express my gratitude for your love and support.
