This deceitful government is deceiving no one but itself. I am compiling the details of soldiers, officers and members of the Nigerian Armed Forces killed by Boko Haram and I am more than shocked with what I am seeing here. Over N1 trillion naira has been pumped into security but just yesterday, a pilot and a technician died when their helicopter crashed. Fine, crashes happen but to tell us that an NAF aircraft was training in Bama, a hostile Boko Haram-controlled territory as vast as Nigeria is, just shows that the military sef cannot lie well. That is even by the side. In a country that has the fourth largest armed forces in Africa, a combined strength of 200,000 troops, Nigerian soldiers have been killed and driven out of Damboa and various cities in Borno State and Boko Haram terrorists have hoisted their black flags declaring their own Islamic State. They have taken over the Maiduguri-Dikwa-Gamboru-Ngala Road as I speak to you, they mount their own roadblocks, collect toll gates, kill people as they like, steal peoples property and abduct girls at will. Cameroon that has a smaller armed forces has managed to keep Boko Haram out of their country. Even small Chad and Niger do not have Boko rampaging in their territories. The Nigerian Army Chief, Lt Gen Kenneth Tobiah Jacob Minimah has admitted that the ill-motivated and very poorly equipped Nigerian soldiers run for their lives on the battlefront. Soldiers complain of not being paid and what do you do? You court martial and punish them. Their wives protest, you ignore them. You send them to battle without adequate cover and they are killed by terrorists in love with death. Those that die, you do not give them their dues, you ignore their families despite the President promising during their burial that they will pay their dues (I am dead serious, I am not making this up, the Federal Government has not paid shishi to the families of the dead soldiers). Nigerians in Borno State are living in fear and despite all this, the Nigerian Commander-in-Chief has not even deemed it sensible or reasonable to visit the place to encourage or show solidarity with the traumatized people or even pay a surprise and secret visit to the troops to at least encourage them and lift their spirits. He remains holed up with his hat in Abuja where his party shamelessly blames everything on the opposition (Abacha too was holed up in Abacha and blamed every single thing on NADECO). He thinks everything is about him. Now that the sponsor of Boko Haram as they claimed, Ali Modu Sheriff, has joined the PDP, I wonder why Jonathan gave him so much reception and even ordered that the Maiduguri Airport be opened because Sheriff wanted to land. Terrorist suspects from Kabiru Sokoto to Sadiq Ogwuche have been arrested but why has not a single sponsor been arrested? Obviously, this is a leader who does not care about the people. Instead of working hard to leave legacies like Mandela who spent just four years, he is more interested in power and politics that will leave him in a few years. But even if he wins in 2015, a maximum of four years more and he his history, just like others. Instead of motivating and uniting the entire nation and leading the most populous black nation to greatness on the global stage, he is living in denial, wasting resources and playing the politics of division, divide-and-rule tactics. Instead of focusing on issues, he is chasing shadows. He is intimidating people all over the country, harassing opponents with the military, using the nations elite special forces to protect his political allies while fresh, 20-year-old soldiers from the NDA are sent to go and die in Damaturu. We are surviving on about 2,000 megawatts of electricity (South Africa has about 40,000 megawatts) and I see some people deceiving themselves that this is the best government ever because of sentiments or the crumbs thrown at them. I am not surprised at all at what hunger can do to people, even Abacha had more praisesingers than this but where is he today? This leadership is messing up big time. If you like, blame the opposition for this post too, na ya headache be that.
