This evening I lost one of my dearest and most special friends. Though lots of people will think I am shallow for posting this, in some way I hope it will help heal my heart. My beautiful white Persian cat Remo is gone. He was almost 13 years old. He was unlike any cat I have ever loved, for he was as unique as his name, part dog, part mouse catcher, and just plain hilarious. He was the first to greet me each morning. He loved pulling the clean socks out of the laundry basket. We would come home from an overnight trip to be met by him at the door and would then follow a trail of 16 socks throughout the house. He loved climbing into the towel cabinet, hiding under the Christmas tree each year and chattering at the assorted taunting birds on the front porch. When Layla was born he was fiercely protective and loving. Whenever she visited he never left her side when she played in the family room. He was often giving her cat kisses and running into her room to get the chance to snuggle. He loved treats and chasing escaped ice cubes around the kitchen floor. When I thought I was close to death a few years ago, REMO would curl up next to me on the sofa. He had no words but he gave comfort. I would like to think that I gave him the same amount of love he gave me. Goodnight my beautiful sweet kitten... There has got to be a special heaven for you.
