This evening in Slave Lake two of our employees noticed a couple - TopicsExpress

This evening in Slave Lake two of our employees noticed a couple of young girls on a floaty in the water far from shore struggling and screaming for help. They immediately called 911 and informed our radio room in Slave Lake of the situation. While the Fire Department Search and Rescue Team was enroute it was learned that the floaty had flipped and the girls no longer in it. Staff from Slave Lake Wildfire Operations immediately took one of our helicopters and did an aerial search locating the floaty approximately a kilometer from shore. They then worked their way back locating the girls approximately 3/4 of a km from shore and informed the fire department of the location. One of the girls was struggling to stay above water. The helicopter was able to guide the Search and Rescue boat to the location quickly. Both girls were rescued and are safe this evening. Fire Chief Jamie Coutts tweeted this evening that the helicopter was invaluable. Thank you to our ESRD employees who went above the call of duty tonight along with the Lesser Slave Regional Fire Department and Lesser Slave Lake Search and Rescue. Quick action made all the difference. Once again, thank you.
