This evenings post is on Ravenea. These are beautiful, easy to grow, highly variable and HUGELY underrated palms from Madagascar. Many people (particularly California and Florida) are mainly interested in Dypsis. Many are crown shafted and have color...but almost across the boards, Raveneas are a better growers, and are prettier plants as they are more suited to our environment (especially California). These palms look how theyre suppose to, full, lush beautiful and tropical (or deserty in the case of the R. xerophila). Below are some prime examples of these palms in cultivation, in California (except for the R. xerophila...only have pictures of small ones). (NOTE: Ravenea xerophila picture was provided by Tobias Spanner). (Ravenea sp. giant - Mardy Darians garden, R. xerophila, R. madagascariensis var. monticola, R. hildebrandtii, R. glauca and R. rivularis) junglemusic.net
