This film is just for true fans of American 1940s B movies. Allotment Wives is a film about a forgotten crime during the Second World War. They were women who were married to 2 or 3 soldiers simultaneously and inherited money and insurance, when they were killed at war. The leader of the gang is a woman, played by Kay Francis. In my opinion she lacks the cynical appearance of, lets say Bette Davis or B. Stanwyck, but Monogram was one of the so-called Powerty Row film makers, and Davis/Stanwyck were at the height of their careers in the 1940s. In Monograms B movies there are mostly interior scenes and much talk. Personally, I would have preferred to have seen more of the fake marriages: How the bad ladies lived with their unknowing husbands before they were killed in action. The film concentrates upon the gang leader, some of the women and the law-officers pursuing them. It has been written that Allotment Wives is a Mildred Pierce-kind of film. Watch it, dear film friends. https://youtube/watch?v=u9O53--xJE4
