This has been a very nostalgic week for me with Steve Owens - TopicsExpress

This has been a very nostalgic week for me with Steve Owens passing and thinking a lot about my Santa Maria days. So I watched American Graffiti yesterday. God how that so much reminds me of Santa Maria days, cruising the loop, getting into a few street races with my hot rod 54 Chevy with a small block hidden inside. Sitting in I think it was Loops at the south end of it, trying to meet girls(met a few). The lifestyle in the movie is so much like the mid 60s I remember. Going to the drag races, skipping class at Hancock and going to Avila or Pismo beach. I worked at Foster Freeze and the manager and I would go out after work on 101 and race our cars. He had a 66 Olds 442 and my hot rod Chevy were closely matched, winner usually got the better start. Hell the small block in my car came from Coe Owens 57 when he got a crate Corvette 327. Built it at a place called Stanco where you could rent a space, tools and advice. The place got me started in wrenching on cars. I remember the numerous 57 Chevys in town, Brad Arnold has a Chevy surfer wagon. Those were sure simple fun days before Vietnam started taking us away. Long live cruising....:)
