This has bounced across my news feed a couple times today, and Im having a damned hard time digesting the data presented in the chart. According to the article, these cities are ranked 1-200 in several metrics, with 200 being best. This pans out in the data where cities in MA have high scores for health insurance purchasers, and in DC for high police:people rates. What I cant figure out is the relationship between the box scores and the final ranking score. Birmingham AL gets a 5.2 based on 186, 8, 6, 5, 4, and 77....while Naperville IL gets a 17.5 based on 44, 198, 195, 194, 198, and 198. Can anyone see the correction that being used to develop the final from the pieces? The paragraph attempting to explain the methodology is very poorly worded.
