This high school student shared spoken word-- a cross- generational service started with Lift Every Voice and Sing, and included a message re choice to be well and do right.. To take up our mat and walk like the maam by the healing pool for 38 years.. Another alum shared the importance of extended family which includes groups like his Alpha fraternity, the Deltas sorority , the university family, etc.. And the service ended with testimony from a current student and a recent alum who is a survivor of rape, homelessness and emotional struggle but who obtained two degrees with help from generous friends and strangers and her persistence in keeping the pledge she made to her dying mom to pursue higher education. A very moving service.
