This is Cams email response to a new client inquiry about low-back pain. It is rather long for a FB post, but very informative if you are interested in the Revive-A-Back method of understanding how to live without chronic back incidents & pain.... ( posted by Michele Cameron) Minor low back pain usually recedes with or without treatment in six weeks or less. Low back pain that persists beyond six weeks enforces a pattern of muscle tension that may serve to alleviate local distress but unfortunately impedes the skeletons instinctive resilient repair. Tension in the jaw, tilting the neck forward, depressing the ribs, hunching or rounding the shoulders, tilting or twisting the hips - may all seem at first innocuous but standing, walking and sitting to be pain free require muscles and bones frame the spine, shoulders, and hips to a level and centered position. Shoulderblade and rib position play a dominant role in alleviating lumbar compression. Muscle balance in the legs particularly balancing the quadriceps in front and the hamstrings in back restores the essential feeling of the foot driving and springing. Sensations of tight hamstrings almost always occur from compression on the spinal nerves triggering the hamstring and almost never by hamstring overwork. Learning to induce the hamstring to be forceful in walking standing and sitting generates the force and strength necessary to decompress the hip socket, Sacro-iliac and lumbar junctions sacral (sacrum) and thoracic (ribs). Farm labor like most hard labor requires bending, gripping, holding, lifting and carrying range of motion is usually from the ground up and rarely overhead for prolonged periods of time. Repetitive motion programs muscles to remember and unconsciously repeat occupational tensions and imbalances whether at work or not. For example computer jockeys often maintain the forward slump to the keyboard and console whether on the computer or not! Likewise with heavy laborers rounded shoulders tend to predominate the posture. Any postural position decreasing rib height and spinal disk space will sooner or later inflict distress. Fortunately the body is superbly mechanically resilient. Accessing the bodys instinctive repair requires re-thinking exercise attitudes and pain opinions. The bodys nerve network is intelligent. Addressing muscle efforts specifically to induce more buoyant muscle tone requires small precise flexes to break the pain signatures hold on muscle activity. Beginning to address resilient muscle force from as far away from the injury site as possible - in low back trauma beginning with the toes and fingers, wrists and ankles, tongue and jaw, sternum and occiput acquaints the nervous system with actual experience of success. Muscle success removes useless adrenalin (fear) and induces buoyant endorphin relief: Pain causes anxiety - anxiety causes pain; resilient success offers light at the end of the tunnel - confidence and hope. The emotional toll of prolonged pain is significant in terms of condemnation and despair, aggravation and impatience - take their toll on the sufferer and those finding their caring efforts on his behalf unsuccessful; likewise suffer condemnation and sometimes resort to avoidance of the sufferer. Witnessing a loved one suffering and being unable to help, inflicts tremendous emotional pressures. When you know what to do for yourself and your family knows what you need to do; then they see a way to help you. Recognizing gravity as force is essential. The human skeleton is constantly at the effect of gravitys compressive momentum. The 206 bones of the human skeleton easily generate buoyant resilient force if freed from the unconscious sabotage of habitual tensions and collapses. Having a prior history of strength is always a bonus. With a little precision flexing your body may surprise you! I hope you find these notes an encouragement. Resuming regular office hours as of tomorrow Aug, 19 - Tuesday. When you come you are welcome to record the session. If there is any way I can help you further please dont hesitate to call. Looking forward to helping you get pain free, Cam 360 738 - 6085 office Obedience refreshes the Lord as being the fruit of his own grace in our hearts. ~C.H. Mackintosh
