This is Chase Justices response to my post (such a pain that posts are not chronological). And I thank everyone who has engaged in the conversation about this past Sundays episode of #ThisIsLife. My goal is to try to ignite dialogue about all of our shows. Im especially grateful to the impassioned Williston locals for expressing their views as well as those who really got what we were trying to do in highlighting the journeys of women seeking out the region to capitalize on the oil boom. Thank you for taking the time to respond and read the comments on my post. First off, fracking and drilling are two completely separate processes (i worked on a drilling rig for 6 years and never fracked anything). I was not disagreeing with the focus of your story. Women working in a completely male dominated industry and keeping up with or out working their male counterparts is pretty amazing. I know several women who are as tough or tougher than some of the men that came to work for me on the rig and i have no doubt that a woman could do that job as well. The women featured in your story were great stories about being able to start their lives over in the oilfields. I realize you only had an hour to get a lot of information in and agree that an 8 part series may not be enough to get all the stories out there. The crime, trafficking and prostitution problem is real and I think that a lot of eyes were opened by your report. I just get sick of seeing the same thing over and over reported by the national news. Maybe i tapped out a little early after the first few segments of the show. But out of frustration of seeing the same overblown facts and misuse of terminology that happens in every article and show about the Bakken. I am starting my 9th year in the oilfields and have lived in this area my whole life. I dont think the focus should be all about the locals because there are many people from all over the country that have amazing stories to share. But the local business owners who made their way before the boom and continue to be affected by it are the ones who deserve some attention. I could point you in the direction of several successful female business owners who didnt come here because of the boom, they thrived before and continue to do so. I explained many of my reasons for the post in the comments below and continue to stand by my opinion. Thank you again for responding and taking the time to read the post and add to it. Keep up the great work and if you ever want to do a follow up report, myself and many of my friends could help highlight some of the things wed like the nation to be aware of. Thanks again.
