This is Cookie the new boy at Tyrells. He has had a leg injury which needs a long convalescing period to heal but he is not the easiest horse to look after so his owner wanted to ensure he went to the right place.........HERE! He is proving to be a complex chap with serious separation issues.I always feel this usually goes back to being weaned too early from his mum or it being very stressful. He actually is not bothered about being with or near other horses but craves my/human attention. He actually wont stay out in a field unless I stay with him. The minute I leave he goes loopy and I was seriously worried he would injure himself. He only feels safe within the confines of his stable. This is not a new thing to him as he has always had a issue with turnout at his previous yard, just not as bad I think. As Tyrells is a totally chilled place, an unsettled horse upsets the peace too much. I am therefore taking time with Cookie to overcome his issues and alleviate any stress for my other horses. Luckily I had a mulch pit behind the barn already so I have now levelled it to give Cookie a turnout area where he can go into his stable whenever he likes. At first the same issue arose, he would only be out there when a human was with him but on day four he is now venturing out alone. He finally knows he can get into his stable at any time so the panic is going. I aim to add access to some field area to extend his wandering at a later date as if he is to stay at Tyrells he needs to learn to chill in a field with horses nearby. Wish me luck! This was him this morning enjoying a nice roll in his new play pen
