This is HUGE! Today overwhelming scientific research has demonstrated the close relationship between animal cruelty crimes and other types of crimes, including interpersonal violence, property crimes, and drug offenses. Often it is a marker of a perpetrator with a higher tendency toward violence. Until recently, violence towards children, the elderly, and other domestic violence had been considered to be unrelated to violence towards animals. The correlation that has now been established between animal abuse, family violence, and other forms of community violence, can be tracked and documented by law enforcement.
