This is Just For Fun but I have done a rare farmers forecast for a fellow amateur meteorologist who is a bit on the poorly side (some of you may know Gavin Partridge and his thoughts). It is quite a long read and wont be making a habit of it, but here it is, a concise nationwide forecast for the next few days. Here goes . . . It seems that “maritime” is going to be the key word with our weather across the UK over the next few days. Now that ex-Gonzalo has moved on out of the way and what with a ridge of high pressure nosing in from the south west, things should take on a more uneventful note across the country for the rest of today, more especially so for Southern and Eastern parts while tending to be rather more cloudy with showery rain over Scotland and Northern Ireland. But overall, it is much more of a walk in the park when compared to yesterday! Temperatures more closer to average values at 8 C North to 12 C to 14 C South. Much more seasonable stuff. Tonight, the general cloud and rain over the northern half of the UK, all associated with a weakening frontal system, will slowly spread south-east wards to make for a rather dull and damp end to the night over the bulk of the country but I am expecting rain amounts to be very much on the frugal side. However, having said that, it will be quite windy over Scotland and that will enable showers to carry on rattling in from the Atlantic to pepper Western Scotland and Northern Ireland A fairly cool and brisk night with minimum temperatures ranging between 7 C to 11 C. Tomorrow (Thursday), it will be rather cloudy over the bulk of the UK along with it being damp with patchy light rain. Perhaps, the far Southern half of England may get to see the occasional bright spells. This is due to a front slowly creeping southeast-wards across the UK, decaying as it comes up against high pressure to the south of us. Although it’ll be a little milder at 13 C to 16 C across the bulk of the country, a brisk south westerly wind will make it feel fresh and airy anyway. All that cloud will keep it fairly mild and frost free by night. As we wear onto Friday, we can expect little general change with rather cloudy and breezy conditions over the bulk of the UK. Though having said that, there will be a spell of more organised rain pushing in from the south west to make it rather wet for a time over England and Wales. Perhaps brightening skies may start to move in from the west to greet Scotland and Northern Ireland as we go through the day, but showers will continue to pester that end of the world anyway, especially towards the west. All well and truly maritime in nature by then with temperatures sticking close to average values at 9 to 11 C North but quite mild at 13 C to up to 17 C South. Fairly mild by night over the South, but starting to turn chilly over the North. Looking ahead into the weekend, we do get to see a well defined two-way split across the UK as far as our weather is concerned. I am hoping that a ridge of high pressure slowly moving in from the south will at least try and brighten and dry things up over England and Wales, more especially over Southern England and the South East. But at the same time, a deepening low pressure system dropping anchor over Iceland is going to keep it quite windy and unsettled over the Northern Half of the UK, some gales are likely over North Scotland. Temperatures ranging between 8 C to 12 North to 13 C to 15 C South, which is pretty much what we should expect for this time of year in any case. Regarding night time temperatures, staying mild over the South, quite chilly over the North but the cloud and wind may prevent a frost from getting a hold at that end of the world anyway. I am getting ahead of myself at this point, but next week does look like starting off on a changeable note with breezy winds and some rain over most of the country, but perhaps settling down again for a time over the Southern half of the UK later on in the week? At any rate, it does look like staying on the mild side so frosts seems unlikely just yet. Aaaaaaaaaaaand there you have it, ideal for the outdoors workers amongst you.
