This is NOT what Bnai Akiva stands for. I speak as someone who has had a lifelong affiliation with this organization. I attened Bnai Akvia Shabbat groups (which is how my parents met, going back). I have attended their camps, and Camp Stone is named for my late great-aunt. I have visited Israel with their tours and even lived on their kibbutzim. And I know what they stand for-- or at least what they used to. So I am VERY upset and disappointed that my beloved Bnai Akiva is sending their young women to protest Women of the Wall. All the Bnai Akiva women I have known and grown up with believe in womens rights, and the necessity of women to daven, official chiyuv notwithstanding. I understand that Modern Orthodox itself describes an internal tension, but we DO NOT stand against our fellow Jews! Not when their desire is as pure as the right to daven at the Kotel, for G-ds sake! (literally). Halevai-- all Jews should want to! So they want to wear a tallit-- show me where it says they cannot! Regardless of yoru kavanah, it is you, Bnai Akiva, who commit a chilul HaShem today, and you who engage in sinat chinam. For shame. Better spend the time teaching your women and girls to daven themselves--- FOR their fellow Jew, never against them! I pray that these young women ignore their leaders and follow their hearts, which should tell them as much.
