This is Treve winning for the second consecutive time in a row the richest flat race in the world (now) - the Prix de lArc dTriomphe at Longchamp in October 2014. This was an odd one for me as well as most punters. Treve had lost every race she had raced that year from her first to French super star, Cirrus Des Aigles in the Group One, PRIX GANAY to Royal Ascot. Where although going off as 8/13 favourite and with more than a few £100k bets being put down on her she could only manage 3rd behind Magician and the winner The Fugue in the Prince of Waless Stakes. Even though she came 3rd and afterwards jockey Frankie Dettori complained about her condition before the race and her stable moaned about her sore arse for months afterwards it still didnt put them off their challenge for the big prize in Europe. She then raced here usual Arc trial the Group One, QATAR PRIX VERMEILLE, where as 4/5 favourite she still only came 5th to German raider 22/1 longshot Baltic Baroness. She went off at 11/1 on October the 5th in the Arc and coming up the rail on the home straight a shooting turn of foot saw her come up the rail and then some to take the race by 2 lengths to 16/1 Flintshire and 9/2 favourite Taghrooda (who was also retired at the end of a stunning season - why do we have to keep retiring our best 3 year olds for the Dubai Stud merchants at the sake of the fans?) - Treve won with happy connections all round. Was it all a ploy to get longer odds on the day? Was it just bad prep work or bad racing udring her trial runs or was she she just born to win the Arc 2 times in a row? So despite losing all her seasonal races and having excuses made for her left right and centre before the trip she stormed the greatest race in the world and took the crown of Champion of Europe 2014 at a big price.
