This is a Letter from Director Carol Wicks Regarding Her Termination and Her Thoughts on Mayor Don Kyle : The mayor had the City attorney hand deliver a termination letter to my attorney at 3 pm today after the City attorney told my attorney on Monday there would be a 2 week notice. The mayor will present his fabricated allegations against me (I run a filthy shelter and adopt out diseased animals, etc.) and I will have a few minutes to defend myself before the council votes me out. I am gone but I hope the public knows that many adoption promotions have stopped at DAS, that the petfinder and Adopt-a-pet,com adoption inquiries are not being answered, that the free ads promoting animals by Townhouse Galleries (if you verify that) have stopped, that the free adoption promotions by TV 51 WYAM have stopped, that the free guest spot on Valley Happenings on WYAM TV 51 have stopped, that the Pets of the Week flyers have stopped, that the free Decatur Daily Pets of the Week promotion and free classifieds have stopped. Only the volunteers promote adoptable animals on Facebook but they will be out soon. I personally believe that Kyle’s second term is all about revenge. Just about everything he has done since being re-elected is revenge against anyone he thinks crossed him during his first term. Kyle opposed the new shelter and stated publicly that it would never be successful at that location. I have made it more successful than Ronny Russell even suggested, so I have to go. Animal intake has been down each year since I started in 2008 and animal adoptions have increased each year, but this is the opposite of what he wants. Kyle plans to return to the original state law and city code that only requires the city to remove stray dogs from the street at minimal cost. That kind of shelter is called catch and kill. Ive been telling people for a year now that its coming. Kyle will deny it, kick the volunteers out of the shelter and quietly make this change. Here are the standard questions but dont know if any apply to you or Jf. Can you send out a request to people to send letters about the state of the shelter, as to whether it was filthy and stinks, and whether the animals they adopted were healthy or not, to [email protected] for my attorney. We are preparing a packet to take to the council over the weekend Can you tell anyone who is interested to come to City Hall Monday Sept 15 at 10 am to the council meeting. There needs to be a lot of animal lovers to convince the council that that animals are very important and no one wants it turned into Kyle’s Killing Station? Can you ask people who are interested to email their councilman. If they already have, tell them to do it again and say that voting to terminate me is voting to go back to catch and kill, and that will kill their career in politics.
