This is a call for Eritrean residing in USA & Canada. We( for the people, to the people, by the people)ask that, by speaking up in opposition of the current condition in Eritrea. Eritrea, made up of a one-party system, is rightly criticized by many for creating Africa`s most repressive state. It`s a country without constitution. As it stands today, the Government in Eritrea has led its people to war & a dreadful socio-economic and political crisis. Not only are the people in Eritrea on the brink of famine, but thousands of people are pouring across the borders to escape starvation and persecution. The loss of support at home and abroad in considerable. Eritrea, once a place filled with hope, beauty, opportunity is now a virtual prison. The government has gone so far as to stop people from accessing the most basic of supplies, With the U.S. state department issuing an emergency report on Eritrea, sources in the region describe the country as in the grip of a food crisis. Attempts to challenge the government, especially Wedi medhin Berad,who has led office since 1991 following Eritrean independence from Ethiopia, are often met with imprisonment for many Eritrean`s living in Eritrea. Eritrea is referred to as Africa`s North Korea by many press freedom groups. We cannot in good conscience stand by and continue to bare witness to the devastation and demise of our country. Ignoring what`s going on in Eritrea will not make our problem the world`s problem . Unlike in middle East, we don`t have the type of resources that a country like USA would fight to help protect. Thus, the only people who care about what happens to our people and our country are Eritreans.We, all must work together to breathe air back to Eritrea. If we don`t,no one will...period!
