This is a complex question, that probably has a simple answer. Sometimes, I encounter an attitude, that the things we believe serve some purpose. For example, the idea that we believe in the Holy Trinity because it reinforces a sense of community. Or we believe in an immortal soul because it keeps us on our best behavior. Or we believe in the Resurrection because it gives us hope. Whether or not these beliefs have any basis in fact is secondary; whats important is that these (mythical) beliefs are useful in reinforcing desirable societal results. Do you know what Im talking about? Does this approach to the Faith have a name?
