#marcwithacsongoftheday Tonight, Claire and The Potatoes will play their final show. Itll be at The Geek Easy in Orlando, FL. It only seems fitting to post this song here today. Now, you might think Id be ready to write a loving eulogy for the band, but actually... Im not. While I knew the band wasnt built to last, even I was surprised by how suddenly it ended - all without acrimony, mind you. Still, ill need hindsight and an element of removal from the situation to really get my bearings on it all, but I think it was an artistically successful project, for sure. This was one of the last songs Id brought in for the project. Millions of bands had done the yeah, were coming to your town, lock up your kids and pets road song, but I didnt think enough bands were just upfront about the fact that touring wasnt in the cards. And that did play into the concept of Claire and The Potatoes. Because, well... they werent a real band. The four of us were merely the conduits that portrayed the band. And those conduits became real. Which made it all very surreal. Which probably made us seem difficult, despite having songs that were easy to like. Ill miss the band members. Ive always said that our rehearsals should be the albums, because we spent 90% of our time laughing and only 10% making any music at all. And I maintain the statement that I gave in an interview when the announcement about our imminent breakup was made: Im happy that we never had a chance to suck.
