This is a copy of a letter from one of our volunteers. Permission was obtained to share on our FB Page. To the Editor This letter is in response to the article published in the Ft Huachuca Scout, titled “Supporting a Friend with Breast Cancer”, by Miranda Flynn. I first want to say kudos to the Scout for Support Breast Cancer Awareness Month, more awareness more progression. However, I was extremely hurt and disappointed when Miranda addressed the topic of obtaining a wig. -----Help her find the perfect wig Before she loses her hair, take her to find a wig that she is comfortable with. It is best to get one that is good quality, and that usually comes with a price tag. Take donations from friends, or have friends or family donate their locks to organizations that make wigs for cancer patients. Having you by her side will comfort her as she finds the look that will carry her through the journey.--------- Again kudos to Miranda for recognizing that the “perfect wig” is a major aspect of being positive during treatment. However, this is my issue, as a member/volunteer of the Butterfly Club; it is extremely disheartening that Miranda did not mention the Butterfly Club who provided the wig to Robin, priced over $1000 for free. The Butterfly Club Inc, mission is to provide free wigs to women & children fighting cancer or other illness that causes hair loss. All volunteers work tirelessly to raise money for this very expensive gift. In 2005 the founder, Wilma Mrosek-Moses, a cancer survivor herself, recognized a need for this unique charity. After her recovery Wilma phoned local and state cancer centers to inquire where she could donate her wigs to women in financial need. Surprisingly, Wilma discovered no organization existed. Well not for long...with the help of her husband Charles (and his entire paycheck) Wilma founded, the Butterfly Club. I hope that the Scout will take a moment to recognize the gift that Robin received, and give credit where credit is due. I believe that our organization was deliberately left out, and an apology is due. The Butterfly Club has a fantastic following but recognition is also helpful to increase support. Again I truly appreciate The Scout’s recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I hope that the blatant disregard of our support will be corrected. Thanks in advance. VR Jess Garrard
