This is a famous restaurant in YBor City--Tampa, Fl. I had an uncle, (deceased, now), that came to America..with a third grade education, from CUBA---He arrived with little english knowledge, but a spirit filled with THE PROMISE America held for him. His name was Gilbert Morejon Sr.-----and he washed dishes, and bussed tables, at this prestigeous place...until, he saved enough money, to open his own sandwich shop.....a sandwich shop He called LATAM----(Latin-American)----He learned how to cook, all the dishes he grew up with in CUBA.....and he worked like a DOG!! LATAM Restaurant began at the corner of Areminia Ave., and Columbus Drive..in Tampa---in 1967...(I was 7 yrs old). Since I can remember, I bussed tables, waited tables, and occassionally rang up customers at that location-------until I was in College. College, I attended while living under His roof---USF--Tampa!! His yougest son, my cousin David--still operates LATAM, to this day--altho it maily does catering now.....and the location has moved back to Ybor---at The Centro Astudiano....( The Cuban American Club) I saw this post and shared it with my memories...ONLY because----THIS IS WHAT AMERICA WAS ALL ABOUT.........and thesedays, we...seem to be about something else.
