This is a fantastic video courtesy of one of the ladies we recently helped in Australia. Rosemary has kindly shared this video taken by one of the obstetricians who did her caesarean following an unexpected premature rupture of her membranes at just over 33 weeks. Rosemary was just about to be admitted to hospital to await her planned caesarean when her waters broke, but miraculously the membranes tore along the edge of the exposed fetal vessels and they stayed intact allowing time for her to get to the hospital and her baby to be safely delivered by caesarean section. To say that Rosemary was lucky is an understatement. The risks associated with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM) with VP is one of the reasons the IVPF recommends early hospitalisation. Often the outcome is very different to this video and the vessels do rupture when the membranes tear, leading to fetal exsanguination. A huge congratulations to Mum, Dad and baby Georgia and thank you for sharing your story and video so that others are aware of the risks of VP!
