This is a follow up to an earlier Post about the Yougnuo 622N TX Controller and its communication with the Alien Bee 800. This is the D7000, ISO 500, @165mm, F/2.8, at 1/400 of a Second. The Alien Bee is almost at Full Power. On the YN Controller, I have set the Super Sync value at 2.2(opposite of the original direction, per a conversation with Desmond Downs and after watching a video by Mark Wallace explaining how the Pocket Wizards technology works with HSS and Alien Bees). With respect to how the YN triggers work with the ABs, it serves as a dumb trigger. Most all it does is send the signal to fire. None of the other TL or Manual adjustments of power can be done on the Controller and it does not support TTL for the AB. But, something is, I say something IS happening between the communication of the YNs, the camera, and the ABs with respect to the Strobe Duration. I have been able to consistently remove the Shutter (lag) bar, when exceeding sync speeds. I have even been able to get good shots that are not gradient lag bar as Mark Wallace described. So, I am not a duration of strobe light guru, but I am confident that I can get above sync speeds using the YN triggers and controller with my AB800s. And, here is the proof, again. Now, as Bob Chadwick would explain, I dont necessarily need those speeds, since the action can be stopped with the strobe at 1/250. But, in portraits or other outdoor shoots with my ABs on portable battery, it is good to know, that I can achieve the expensive looking outcome of overpowering the sun, just using a YN trigger/controller. Also, I am not promoting YNs over other triggers or even the suggested ABs Commander, I am just saying that on the cheap, it can be done with the YNs with stunning results.
