This is a glimpse of the rebuilding of community over the last 7.5 years. LBRM built this relationship with the George Washington Middle School (GWMS) as part of its reconnecting with the community in 2006 - including initiating neighborhood cleaning crews patterned after the DLBA.org The Mission became a contributor at school carnivals and was the sole supporter of the GWMS Student of the Month program, providing refreshments and printing the t-shirts for awardees, as well as distributing backpacks directly to school counselors rather than through an open giveaway - which grew to 9 schools. Former GWMS Principal Connie McKivett even scolded someone who wanted her help to close the Mission, saying, Absolutely not! The Rescue Mission is the best neighbor the school could have. In this 07 edition of the Rescue Review she tells the story of an incredulous student who got his very own backpack. lbrm.org/downloads/LBRM%204707%20Holiday%20Newsletter.pdf presstelegram/article/20131127/NEWS/131129454
