This is a good gesture from our governor, but Ojoro cancel. AMOSUN APPROVES CAR, HOUSING LOANS, OTHERS FOR WORKERS Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has approved car and housing loans for civil servants as a way of boosting their morale and efficiency at work. Amosun also promised to implement 27.5 percent Peculiar Allowance for teachers as well as payment of outstanding allowances. The governor made the announcement yesterday during an inter-active session with workers in an event tagged “A Day Out With Mr. Governor” held at the Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta as part of activities marking the 2014 Public Service Day in the state. According to him, the approval of the loans became necessary to allow the civil servants a choice of either buying the news houses built by government or build their own at any location. With the minimum of N500, 000 as car loan for officers on Grade Levels one to six, housing loan of N1m to the same category of workers and a maximum of N2m and N5m car and housing loan respectively for officers on Grade Level 16 to 17. He pleaded with the workers to give him some time to regularize modalities and pump money into the account to fund the loan project, expressing the hope that it would commence by the last quarter of the year. On the prices for the three bedroom, two bedroom semi detached and the two bedroom flats built at the Laderin Estate, the governor after due consideration of the appeals by workers reduced considerably the amount to N5.5 million for three bedroom and N5 million for two bedroom flat, a gesture well applauded by public servants. The governor, who appreciated the workers for their support in the Ogun State project acknowledged that though civil servants were expected to be non-partisan in politics, they remained a very important component as the engine room of government, who also had their constituents back home. While saying that the state had improved on its Internally Generated Revenue, Amosun encouraged the workforce not to relent in assisting the government in this regard for it to continually fulfil more obligations to the workforce. I acknowledge the civil servant as prominent to any government and polity and we would not take their support for granted. We would not owe salaries and as our IGR increases, we would endeavour to reflect it in the salaries and allowances of our workers, he assured. The governor added that about 7,012 skilled workers and over 3,000 unskilled workers had so far been employed by the current administration, while calling on all workers who had been in service for not less than 10 years to forward the names of their unemployed children to be considered for new employment into various positions in the service. Earlier, the State Head of Service, Mrs. Modupe Adekunle welcomed and appreciated the government for its efforts at prioritizing whatever concerns the civil servants, urging it to continue in this direction.
