This is a more serious post:) Ive always prided myself on being able to squeeze a dime out of a nickel, and make things work:) in this business, since the start...Ive said...Im definitely not getting rich, but it allows me to do something I love...and be able to have my children be part of it with me, pay my bills...and provide a much needed service for our community. Well, lately...with the rising cost of food in this past year, and with having a baby...so I no longer am able to work 14 hour days..Ive made the comment several times...by the time I pay for the food and labor, I feel like Im running a non profit;-) Well, Im a lot better at cooking and running the kitchen than I am book keeping. Anyone who knows me knows this:) so, I pay the bills and just juggle the best we can. This weekend I decided to list out every bill that came along with this store and all the income that comes in...and see why it is so different now verses last year and years past. Ive lived on savings instead of taking a paycheck most of this year. I attributed it to having a baby...and groceries going up....BUT I didnt realize just how much groceries had gone up! My percentage I used to spend on food was about 40%. Thats more than average restaurants...but again, I wasnt trying to get rich...just make a living. This year, my grocery cost has risen to over 55% sometimes 60% of our total revenue. My labor is 30%. No wonder I havent taken a paycheck! Lol. Sometimes Ive gotten so busy just trying to keep cranking out the food, that Ive forgotten the fundamentals of running a business:) I still have a lease I pay, taxes I pay, and utilities and phone....Im telling you all this to say...I MUST have a price increase...Ive only had one in the 5 years weve been doing this and that was about 2 years ago. I hate doing it, but I do have a family to support also:) Starting Monday, casserole prices will go up 1.00. For one person, 1.00 isnt a whole lot per casserole....but for me, It will help put things back in balance. Dessert and side prices will stay the same. Anyone who goes it the grocery store has saw the rise in costs this year. On average, my groceries for the store have went up about $1,000.00 per week. I simply dont make enough to keep absorbing that increase. A lot of places go up on prices and never mention it...cut portion size or use cheaper ingredients...I cant do that. I want to continue to provide the same quality foods...service....and portion size you all have gotten used to:) Im so thankful for you all! Starting Monday casserole prices will be as follows. A small that feeds 2-3 people 10.99. A medium that feeds 4-6 18.99. A large that feeds 8-10 26.99 I appreciate your understanding!
