This is a part of chapter one of my upcoming book, The Emperor which is a derivative of Heart of The Lion. If you havent read Heart of The Lion Its available for FREE tomorrow on Amazon. Anyway, this is the opening of The Emperor. One -Bryce Jameson- As the generals removed their swords, I put on my golden coat of a leader. Fighting for freedom was the easy part. Maintaining it proved to be an everlasting job. My first concern was the welfare of the people. I didn’t see myself as a politician but a father of all whom I led. Each hungry child was a drop of my tears. Each shivering soul in the cold night served a stab to my heart. “Mr. President.” Stephen spoke out of the silent table, “May I speak?” “Let your words be heard, General Lane.” I replied, “Speak freely as you may.” “It’s about the rebels, sir. They’re rising up against you. Those who once sworn to fight for freedom by your side are threatening the idea. They conquer towns, make their own laws, harass harmless people. Even worse, some are thinking about establishing their own nations.” “Let them have their own nations, Mr. President.” Snyder said, “Our army has weakened after the war. Now is definitely not the right time to extinguish small flames. After we’ve regained our strength, with all your mind and power, we will crush them and restore order.” “A divided house is not a strong house.” I said, “A culture may disappear, a language may be silenced, a religion may die, but the human race must not extinct. Before the great war, nations on Earth bit each other. Ideals against ideals, beliefs against beliefs. No one fought side by side each other against their common enemies, Zamokans. Guess what happened. Earth was doomed after three days. The Earth must be one nation.” “I do respect your thoughts, sir.” Stephen said, “But how will we defeat the rebels? As general Snyder has said, our army is weakened. A war should be avoided. The more wars we have, the more divided we will become, the more the people will doubt your ruling ability.” “Being a leader is an art.” I said loudly, “A true leader gives the people what they want, but controls what they need. He never says it. He just knows it. Those lousy rebels. I can hear their thoughts from thousands of mile away. They want wealth and power. What do you think they need, my generals?” “Please teach us, sir.” General Sanada broke the silence of the crowd, “Open our minds to your thoughts. Let us hear your words.” “We were all once rebels. We fought for our people, freedom, and the existence of the human race. We shot bullets at our enemies, took no prisoners, let them rot on the battlefield. But, we shot love at the hearts of our people. That was why they loved us. That was why they supported us. We will use the same tactic to quench the rebels. They harass people, take over towns. The people will not love them.” “What is the first thing we should complete to achieve that goal, sir?” General Anderson asked. “We will move the capital to Washington.” I replied, “A leader cannot live underground like a rat. He must stand tall above all. General Stephen Lane.” “Yes, sir.” He stood up to my command. “I want a horse.” “Sir?” His eyes puzzled. “I said I want a horse.” “For what, sir?” “I will ride to Washington on horseback.” “You don’t know how to ride a horse.” He said, “No human has rode a horse for two thousand years.” “Then, I will learn to ride a horse, Stephen.” “Mr. President.” Snyder said, “Why would want to ride a horse to Washington?” “Daniella.” I turned to my wife, then stood up after she gave me a lovely smile. Gently, she wore a silver-trimmed red coat that she had weaved and wore a ornamented golden war helmet on my head. All of the generals had their eyes wide opened as they looked up at me. “How do y’all think Bryce looks?” Daniella asked them. Still, the room was silent. “You’re the best looking leader I have seen.” Snyder lipped his words. “Skyla.” I called loudly. From behind the red curtain, she walked out with a golden sword on her hands and firmly laid it down on my palms. The blue diamond blade was made from Liam’s broken sword. The grip was carved by the finest sword maker on Earth. “This is my symbol of power.” I said, “On horseback, the people will see me as the sun, the brightest sun. Wise old men said that leaders are stars in the sky. He, who is smart, chooses to follow the brightest star. I am not a star, stars are small. I am the sun. When the sun dies, all will die. When the sun rises, grounds will be warm, plants will grow, eyes shall see further. Now you know why Daniella weaved me a red coat. Red is also the color of glory. On two feet, they will see me as a warrior. This sword in my hands, made from the broken sword of the God of The Lions, proves to them that no gods may stand in my way. If no gods stand in my way, so will my enemies. If any of you ever thinks about betraying me, betray me silently. Don’t let me find out. Once I hand you this fine sword, you will go home with it, your family will return it to me the day after. Cleared?” “Yes, sir.” My generals replied. “I want the people to have a glance at me on our way to Washington.” I continued, “I want them to see the sun. The sun that brings life and prospects, love and freedom, dreams and hopes. After the people saw that I am the only ruler of the people, they will stand by my side, and put down the rebels.” “Mr. President.” Sanada spoke, “Your eyes see further than the eyes of gods, your mind thinks wiser than the minds of gods. I’m honored to serve you till my last breath.” “Mhmm.” I nodded. “Generals.” Daniella spoke softly, “People see the sun. But, the sun sees my husband. In the history of planet Earth, he is the greatest military commander. Napoleon of France, Leonidas of Sparta, Genghis Khan of Mongolia, Sun Tzu of China, Julius Caesar of Rome, Erwin Rommel of Germany. All of them combined don’t stand taller than Bryce Jameson’s Heart of an Emperor. He sure will be the greatest leader in history of humankind. He sure will bring love and happiness, most importance of all, he will keep our precious hard-earned freedom untouched, our children unharmed.” “Well said, my queen.” I complemented her than turned back at the generals, “Daniella has spoken the truth. The truth is always true. You all may dismiss. I will announce our departing day early tomorrow.” “Thank you, sweetheart.” I said to Daniella as the last general left. “I am your wife.”She replied, “I will do anything to help you.” “I’m still worried, baby.” “About what?” “Their loyalty to me. Beside Stephen, all of them are hiding thoughts in their minds. I am only twenty five year old and already the leader of a planet. Step is loyal to me because he is a friend who had once fought by my side. The youngest of the generals is twenty five years older than me. When Sanada spoke, I felt like he was pleasing me like a dog to its owner. Dogs follow those who give them big bones. Snyder, that man always counters my thoughts. They don’t like the fact that they have to listen to me. Old people with old thoughts are tumults of future cancers.” “A great leader is a great leader, Bryce.” She eased down on my laps, “You are a perfect leader for this imperfect planet. They have to bow to your intelligence and applause your military mind. They had seen how you came to power. They had seen how you lead men to victories. I believe that they are loyal to you.” “I do have doubts, cutie pie. Doubts that stress my head when I go to sleep. Doubts that worry me of our future generations.” “When you’re next to me, I don’t want you to think about anything but us two. That will levitate your stress off your soul.” “I haven’t spent much time with you lately.” I said, “I’m sorry. I need you to know that I always love you, it doesn’t matter who I am or will be tomorrow.” “I know you always love me.” Her lips touched mine, “Don’t forget that you have a beautiful family behind your back, Liam, Shyla, April, May, Skyla, Tessica, me… and our two baby boys in my tummy.”
