This is a photo of my mentor and sister Chaumtoli Huq being dragged away by police in NYC for STANDING ON A SIDEWALK while her kids used the restroom. I almost didnt recognize her in this photo, maybe because I didnt want to believe that this could happen to her. May justice be served because these cops in this photo have no idea what justice is. She was a top lawyer in NYC for years who left for a prestigious fellowship in her home country. She has stood up for underserved and marginalized communities for years, yet this is what she deserved? Sickening Here are 3 things from Chaumtoli that you can do to #EndOverPolicing For folks who asked how to help, here are ways I can think of and open to any ideas you have. Folks should feel empowered to take these on. 1. Circulate articles about the case to your networks and engage your networks on how overpolicing impacts our communities; #EndOverPolicing 2. If you are part of an organization, issue a statement mentioning my case but connect it to broader issue of overpolicing. 3. Write a blog, Op-Ed on #overpolicing.
