This is a photograph of Marshall Bennett and his wife. Marshall was the grandson of Virden Marshall, owner of Old Landing, and stopped by our Mulberry Knoll home to visit this particular afternoon in the summer of 1966 while we were down on the pier crabbing. I often wonder what ever happened to Marshall and his sister, Marilyn and the rest of the Bennett family. As neighbors, they were such dear, treasured friends. During our summers at the beach, our two families would often visit each other’s homes by boat, which was the fastest way to get back and forth. Marilyn owned a beautiful Chestnut colored thoroughbred race horse that she would ride over to our house. We owned a black and white small Shetland pony named, “Pinky.” She got her name due to one small pink spot on her lip. Marilyn and my sister would often be together having a wonderful time galloping their horses down the lane or through the woods and fields. Marshall had a motor boat with a Mercury Motor. I was always jealous because his boat was faster than ours, which was a fiberglass Crosby Boat equipped with a 10 HP Evinrude. I still own that Crosby today and just finished restoring it to its original condition. It is my prized possession. I remember one afternoon, Marshall picked me up in his boat and we motored down through Love Creek, under the bridge and way back into a watershed where thousands of Lilly Pads were floating on the surface in shallow water. There was a house standing back there and an old man who looked like “Uncle Sam” came down to their pier, along with the rest of his family, and angrily started yelling something to us. Don’t know what that was all about since we could not hear them. So, Marshall, given that marvelous, mischievous nature of his, told me to just smile and wave at them, which we both did, as we sped past them and made our way back home. I would really like to see Marshall again to reminisce about all those fun times our families shared together. I have been told he still leaves in the Lewes-Rehoboth area but I do not know if that is true. I just cannot find out where or how to contact him. Does anyone know him or how I might be able to get in touch with him? If so, please do tell. I could go on and on telling delightful and amusing stories about our family and The Marshalls and The Bennetts. Those were wonderful times.
