This is a report on Grandpa Bruces Athletic team. There have been many of my friends asking for an up date on grand kids athletic activities. Havent felt well the past month and have gotten far behind. Megan Sullivan my oldest competing granddaughter is in her sophomore year of college and qualified for two events at the national indoor track meet in Ohio this past week. She finished 7th with her 4x400 relay team in the finals to earn ALL AMERICAN Honors!! Way to go MEG!!! Her team took 4 seconds off their time, and set a new school record. For those who do not follow track, four seconds is a very very large time reduction. Some track sprinters do not accomplish that in their carriers. She is now back at it for the outdoor season, and grandpa is looking for more great things to come. Deric Deede, my oldest grandson has been a very busy athlete. He is required to produce a paper and presentation of his choosing and per-approved by the high school as a prerequisite for graduation this spring. He usually is a fast twitch muscle guy playing football, hockey and track. He chose to do something completely different, talking his mom into setting up a three month training program and writing about his experience running a marathon (26.2 miles) in California last month. Melanie had run four previous marathons, so had the know how to set it up. Their goal was 4 hours and they finished in 4 hours 20 minutes. This while still playing a full schedule of hockey for Idaho Falls high school. That team qualified for state at Sun Valley, played four games but did not qualify for finals this past weekend. He is now getting ready for a track meet this coming weekend with relay and jumping events. No rest for the wicked huh Deric!!! He is also busy sorting out offers to play football at the college level next fall. Hailey Sullivan, a sophomore at Grangeville High School, had her girls basketball team qualify for the state tournament which placed fourth and received a trophy last month. She is now practicing for her first track meet in two weeks. As you can see, track is the sport of spring for all of them. I do not have to change from sport to sport. I just have to get there to watch as their number one fan!!
