This is a statement where the Minister for European Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Maria Damanaki is trying to put pressure other nations to get rights the EU not have rights to. Despie EU rights back in 1996 was less than 1% and was not in the initial herring negotiation, EU got a 5% share from Norway, Ieland and Faroe Island. Even the stock is ten times as big as then and have migrated further away from EU waters and EU share right has dropped significantly, the EU is trying to put pressure on the Faroe Islands and Iceland to restrict the rights which they have under international law. This proves that the EU does not have any evidence to support their claims when they are threaten to rights they never have had.
