This is a terrible case of animal cruelty. A Northern Snapping Turtle found hanging in a tree with a fish hook down its throat at Corroboree Billabong. Thankfully a local vet successfully removed the fish hook and placed the turtle on antibiotics for a week before it was handed over to the Territory Wildlife Park. Parks and Wildlife Commission NT chief wildlife ranger, Sally Heaton, urged anyone with information about the turtle to contact her or Northern Territory police.“This is a serious matter of animal cruelty and one that we will pursue if anyone is able and willing to come forward with information,” Ms Heaton said. “Anyone found guilty of interfering with protected wildlife could face a maximum fine of $72,000 or five years imprisonment. If you have any information please call Parks and Wildlife 24 hour call out number on 0401115702. People can also call the Northern Territory Animal Welfare Branch on 1300720386 or Northern Territory Police on 131444 if they have information about this turtle.
