This is a worthy read. Id like to take the precepts of this article a step further. I work in a private, for profit company. I am certain that not everyone in the company gives 100% each day. As part of the management team, I do try to ensure that my employees are productive and contributing, as do my counterparts, however, at least for a time, some folks will fall through the cracks. When it comes to the social safety net, it is catching people who are deeply in need, sometimes, a matter of life and death. If some people are availing themselves of more than their share of benefits, it would be great if the in place mechanisms can weed some of them out. But in the end, if we are catching, and safeguarding those in need, I can MUCH LESS about people who use public benefits fraudulently than I do about those who would suffer, perhaps die, if we didnt extend government benefits to those most in need in our society. I can live with abuse, rather than unrelenting poverty. Guess that makes me a commie.
