This is about how production companies take advantage of workers. Ever since the recession, companies -- not just in entertainment -- have moved from hiring full time staff to using freelancers so they dont have to pay benefits. Those lucky enough to be hired, for the most part, are paid low wages and treated like crap. So these stories are very familiar to me. I am a union member and, although I now only work freelance in radio news, I have benefits. The establishment says unions are bad for the economy. The truth is the unions are bad for the company shareholders bottom line because some -- emphasis on the word some -- of the profit is shared with those who actually do the work that brings in the revenue. I submit there is nothing wrong with those who bring in the revenue actually being able to share in that revenue.
