This is an interesting development, not just in being a first for atheism. Does it not also imply that atheism is being classified for legal purposes (of not discriminating between religious groups) as a religious grouping? Does it not imply that atheists want to stand up out there in the lineup of religious groupings? And if they do they will not be anti-religion versus all the rest but one among many approaches to religious questions? I think that where the town board (or county board, or whatever) has prayers/invocations before meetings, pantheists should also put themselves forward. If you are going to do this, please let us know.
