This is an old story but it has a very balanced view of this - TopicsExpress

This is an old story but it has a very balanced view of this tragic and familiar case along with great advice. When Yoshi was just born I went to the shops leaving James at home with David. Having two children was new, and my brain automatically assumed that, as James was with Dave, I didnt have to get anybody out of the car, and I walked away. When I was about 10 meters away I realised what I had done and rushed back to the car to my two week old baby and schmooshed him into me, completely overwhelmed by how easy that was. Never a Mum to leave my kids in a car, I assumed I never would. I share this with you now as Im afraid that at some point being complacent and thinking Im not THAT parent can be dangerous. It seems much safer to assume that you could be and to be constantly fearful of it. At the end of this article it suggests that parents leave their phone or their handbag/wallet in the backseat WITH the baby/s, something you would miss sooner than the baby, and I personally LOVE that advice and will be doing it from now on.
