This is cool! The B-52s: 52 Girls At 20, I was probably more into music than I’ve ever been in my life, particularly new wave and alternative music. That’s when I got my first love of it. I was doing college radio [on KCPR, Cal Poly Radio], and thats also where I first got the name Weird Al. The 70s were a time of disco, and new wave and punk were a reaction to that, so I was very excited when bands like the B-52s, Devo, the Talking Heads, and Oingo Boingo came out, along with all of the power pop stuff I loved, like the Romantics, the Knack, and the Paul Collins Beat. I remember playing “52 Girls” by the B-52s on my college radio show and dancing wildly around the studio. I’ve always been a big music fan, but that was one of my favorite periods in music.
