This is from Debra Dodson with Prudential: Dear Lisa, As most of you know, Hurricane Odile hit Los Cabo and the Baja Sur area during the late evening hours on September 14, 2014 and the early hours of September 15, 2014. Odile, a category 3 hurricane was the strongest hurricane to ever hit our area and it left significant damage in its wake. For comparison, hurricane Katrina was a category 3 when it hit the gulf coast. Right now power lines are down, cell towers are down, roads are blocked with debris, the marina is damaged, many people are without water, and our airport has been wrecked. Fortunately, our city, our government and most importantly our people have handled this well (all things considered). Through the local leadership, the community was widely and thoroughly notified of the impending danger. 30,000 people, most of them tourists, were given shelter. The Mexican military has been airlifting tourists out the area to cities where they could layover to get home. And through it all, there are no known causalities to date; there are no known major injuries; and per the latest report only 135 people have been treated for minor injuries from things like flying debris and/or glass. This is paradise. It is our paradise. Though some say, today it is paradise lost; make no mistake about it, we will re-build. This area and this community is full of some of the best people on earth; in both its citizens and its expats. Well put it back together and be ready to share our paradise with the world once again. We hope to see you soon! This bulletin is usually full of interesting tidbits about our area/community, blended with various property listings, my company, Prudential Cabo Gold, would like to sell. Due to the circumstances, we are temporarily abandoning that format. We will post where you can offer help and where you can find help. Depending on which side of that coin you are on, I encourage you to utilize this opportunity. I also have a request, if you know of other places rendering aid in the Baja Sur area that are not listed here, please send me or my marking director, Matt Echols, an email advising us of such, so we can share this information. Our emails are, debra@prucabogold and matt.cabogold@gmail. As always, we welcome any comments and/or suggestions. Until next time, well be ..... Living the good life (in no time)! Craig Miller, founder of Thirst No More has agreed to help lead efforts in Cabo. Theres no one better for this type of work. Hes asked us to raise money to help put together PAKS (Primary Assistance Kits). These kits are designed to meet the very basic needs of people who have lost everything. PAKS are typically in some sort of plastic containers that can be used to store the items or also to store clean water. The contents include things like soap, wash cloths, towels, sandals, a toy, plates, forks, matches, a cooking pan, flash light with batteries, some food. We also like to give tools like tarps, saws, hammers, and nails that can be used to build temporary shelter. The standard price for a PAK is $50.00 USD and it includes everything in one PAK, as well as cost of getting it to the victims. When you think of Cabo, most people are thinking of the beautiful resorts and scenery. What many of you dont know, in the outskirts of Cabo, there are poverty stricken people that live in homemade shacks that they call home. Their shacks/homes have been demolished and there are literally thousands misplaced as we speak. Please go to the Thirst No More website. On the bottom right hand corner you will see a DONATE tab, click on it. This will lead you to the next page where you will see a CLICK HERE tab underneath the big BLUE DONATE, click on CLICK HERE. Under the drop down tab, select CABO RELIEF all the way at the bottom of the list. Every penny of your donation will go directly to our relief work in Cabo. Thank you for helping us with this effort.
